Who we are
Susan P. Smith
Susan P. Smith has been recruiting HR talent for Detroit area organizations for over 30 years. She began her career with AT&T in HR, operational, and financial management positions then joined Citicorp’s Advance Mortgage Corporation. Her professional recruiting career started in 1984 when she joined a large national search firm. In 1992 Smith Professional Search was launched. Susan earned her B.S. in Business Administration from Wayne State University with a major in Personnel and Industrial Relations. She is also a Certified Senior HR Professional through HRCI (SPHR) and Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM-SCP).
Susan has been an active member in many local professional associations. She joined Detroit SHRM in 1985 and served as President of the Association in 2003–4. Susan helped launch and continues to be active with Detroit SHRM’s Global HR Forum. Her past involvement includes board and leadership roles with the Association for Corporate Growth and the ACG Women’s Forum, Michigan State Council of SHRM, SHRM’s Staffing Management Special Expertise Panel, a SHRM task force to develop HR Standards for Workforce Planning, Job Descriptions, and HR Metrics. She currently serves on the advisory board of the Metro Detroit 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For.
Being a strong supporter of Detroit and all things Michigan, Susan is an active volunteer with several non-profit and business organizations, including The American Heart Association, the GoRed for Women Campaign, The Community House, Inforum, the Parade Company Distinguished Clown Corps, and the Detroit Zoo. In her off hours, she enjoys adventures with her husband, a variety of outdoor activities, exploring the City of Detroit, reading, playing piano, travel, and hanging out with her two cats, Winston and Bailey.
